General Bluetooth Product Troubleshooting on Computer - No USB receiver

My Bluetooth product doesn't work. What can I do?


Bluetooth devices don't need special drivers on Windows 8, 10 or 11.  It functions with the Windows Bluetooth driver.

Step 1: Verify Bluetooth on Your PC.

  1. Check if Your computer has Built-in Bluetooth:

    • Look for the Bluetooth icon in the system tray on the taskbar. If it's not there, your computer might not have built-in Bluetooth. In such cases, you can use an external Bluetooth dongle.
  2. Get a Bluetooth Dongle (If Needed):

    • If your computer doesn't have built-in Bluetooth, you can purchase a USB Bluetooth dongle. Plug it into a USB port on your computer.

Step 2: Enable Bluetooth on Your computer.

  1. Open Settings:

    • Press Windows Key + I to open the Settings menu.
  2. Go to Devices:

    • In the Settings menu, select "Devices."
  3. Turn On Bluetooth:

    • In the Devices menu, you should see a "Bluetooth & other devices" option. Toggle the switch to turn Bluetooth on.

Step 3: Set Your Device to Discovery Mode.

  1. Put Bluetooth Device in Discovery Mode:
    • Refer to the device's user manual to find out how to enable "discovery" or "pairing" mode. This is usually done by holding down a button on the device.

Step 4: Pair the Bluetooth Device with Your computer.

  1. Open Bluetooth Settings:

    • In the "Bluetooth & other devices" settings, make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
  2. Click on "Add Bluetooth or other device":

    • In the Bluetooth settings, click on the option to add a new device.
  3. Choose Your Device Type:

    • Select "Bluetooth" and then choose the type of device you want to connect (e.g., headphones, speakers, mouse).
  4. Select Your Device:

    • Windows will search for nearby Bluetooth devices. Select your device from the list.
  5. Pairing:

    • If prompted, enter a pairing code or confirm that the code on your PC matches the one on your device.
  6. Wait for Connection:

    • Once the pairing is successful, your device will be connected.

Step 5: Test the Connection.

  1. Check Connection Status:

    • Go back to the Bluetooth settings to ensure your device is listed as "Connected."
  2. Test Audio or Other Functions:

    • If you connected audio devices, play some audio to test the connection. For other devices, make sure they respond as expected.

Keep in mind that the exact steps might vary slightly depending on your computer's operating system and the device you are connecting. Always refer to the user manuals for your specific devices for more detailed instructions.
